In the ancient world, a shepherd didn't just have a job; he had a relationship with his flock. When a predator approached, a hired hand might weigh the cost and decide his own skin was worth more than a few sheep. But Jesus tells us He is the Good Shepherd. He doesn't run when the 'wolf' of sin, death, or hardship shows up at your door. Instead, He stands His ground and offers His own life to keep you safe. There is something incredibly comforting about being 'known.' In a world where we are often just a number, a customer, or a face in the crowd, Jesus says He knows His sheep by name. This isn't just knowing facts about you; it is the same kind of deep, intimate love that exists between Jesus and His Father. He knows your fears, your quiet struggles, and your specific needs, and He still chooses to lay down His life for you. Because we have such a Shepherd, we don't have to live in fear of being abandoned. Whether you are feeling lost today or sitting safely in the fold, His voice is calling to you. He is gathering a great family from every corner of the earth, and He wants you to find your identity and your security in Him alone.
